September 15 - 24, 2017

Enter the blissfully supernatural world of this family friendly comedy that marries vivid animations with live performance to create a wonderfully uplifting spectacle. Co-directed by Barrie Kosky and Suzanne Andrade, this version from Britsh theatre company 1927 updates the setting of Mozart's tale to the Golden Age of 1920s silent cinema with a David Lynchian flair.

A brand-new production of Carmen will be winging its way to the Opera Philadelphia stage. Georges Bizet's seductive heroine has attracted audiences with her exotic magneticism for some 150-odd years. Conducted by Yves Abel and directed by Paul Curran, the role of the Spanish gypsy will be sung by rising star mezzo-soprano Daniela Mack, described as "a rich, agile voice and a fearless attitude", with the role of Evan LeRoy Johnson as Don Jose. Carmen has carved a niche as one of opera's most dangerous women. Stunningly beautiful and wholly aware, her habit of taking and breaking hearts can only lead to trouble for her and her bedazzled targets.
