Philadelphia Ballet - The Dream at Academy of Music

Why see Philadelphia Ballet - The Dream?

A splendid adaptation of Shakespeare's enduring supernatural comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream by legendary British choreographer Sir Frederick Ashton, is magnificently performed by Philadelphia Ballet in 2024! Set to the music of Mendelssohn's Midsummer Night's Dream overture and incidental music, enter a realm of myth, magic, mischief and mistaken identity, where fairies rule and love eventually prevails.

Two sets of lovers become entangled in a lover's spat between King Oberon and Queen Titania, the woodland rulers. Throw into the mix the naughty sprite Puck and a group of hapless mechanicals, and you've got a recipe for old school comedy gold. Also on the program is the fearless Prodigal Son by George Balanchine, whose own version of Midsummer Nights Dream is prominent in ballet folklore, set to the sumptuous music of Prokofiev.
