Loved it ALL
This was GREAT! The usual first class show for the Drury Lane. Costumes, Set, Dancing all just wonderful. And the voices! Cinderella as played by Lissa deGuzman was a wow. Her voice is magnificent. The young women in the audience were jumping and cheering for her at curtain call. The whole audience was on their feet applauding this production.
Great set design but different story
I enjoyed the show overall. Kathryn Brunner is one of my favorite WST leads. Everyone was very talented but the highlight in my opinion was set and costume design. The designers incorporated some really interesting ideas that seemed to impress the entire audience. One negative aspect is that the show does not follow the original Rodgers & Hammerstein story. I don't care for it when directors take liberty with someone else's work and this was a disappointing aspect for me personally.
Not what I expected
While the show contained all the beloved songs, the storyline had been altered. It was a bit of a disappointment to be expecting the familiar story and not getting it. The singing and dancing were delightful and the acting was good. Not sure if I would take young children, the little ones sitting in front of us didn't seem to enjoy it.
Disappointed
While the songs were definitely Roger's and Hammerstein, the storyline was not. It was something about the poverty in the town, a plot the fairy godmother was involved in! What??? Something I have never heard before. I know my Granddaughters didnt understand it. Also, as a young girl, seeing Cinderellas beautiful gowns was the highlight. It should have been spectacular, I know all the little girls were waiting for that gown. It should have been big and puffy and sparkly and an "ohhhhh" moment, but it wasn't. Just a gown, nothing spectacular. Also, her wedding gown looked like it was just purchased from David's! It was white, and pretty, but definitely not a Cinderella stunning gown. The set wasn't very bright or showy, just not kid friendly. Very dark. Acting was great, but for $100 a ticket for small kids, I expected the Cinderella story I grew up on with all the glitz and glitter. I wanted my Granddaughters to love it. We enjoyed ourselves, but would not recommend .
Disappointing!
Not what we expected at all. Why take a classic and turn it into a social platform, write your own screenplay, don’t alter a classic.
Not Rogers & Cinderella we all know
We have been going to Drury Lane for decades. This is the first time I have been disappointed in a production. Not sure why anyone felt it appropriate to re-write a CLASSIC fairy tale or inject politics into the storyline, but this was NOT Rogers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. Not one word was mentioned when purchasing the tickets. IF you are going to just use the music, but completely re-write the story, Drury Lane needs to warn people before they spend hundreds of dollars on tickets. The author was wrong, but it was worse that Drury Lane produced it. You should let people know it is an adaptation or a re-imagining. Very saddened and disappointed to see this. Can't anything escape WOKE??
