Why see An American in Paris?

Welcome to Paris

Inspired by composer George Gershwin's timeless 1928 composition, The Philadelphia Orchestra presents an infusion of live music alongside the cinematic award-winning classic, An American in Paris, which will be projected onto the big screen. You'll be transported to Paris where you'll follow struggling painter Jerry Mulligan and experience his story of love and friendship.

What is an american in paris about?

Based on the classic Gene Kelly movie, An American in Paris is a grand romance set on the cobbled streets of the city of love. The story follows a former American GI who arrives in the French capital with dreams of becoming a painter. There he meets the beautiful Lise, but not everything is smooth sailing for the couple, as Lisa is holding onto a secret which could tear them apart.

Featuring a roll call of some of George and Ira Gershwin's greatest songs, including 'They Can't Take That Away From Me' and 'I Got Rhythm', and stunning, ballet-infused dance sequence, An American in Paris is a delight from start to finish.

Best thing I’ve seen at Phoenix theater

I saw the matinee this afternoon and was transfixed by every performance and the talent and versatility of all the actors/dancers in the play. The two leads were incredible, as were the actors that played Milo and Henri. Every supporting part was so professional and enjoyable I couldn’t believe the quality of the work. Go and see this before it leaves town… And then say it again ... Read more

An American in Paris

One of the best shows I have seen recently at PPAC. The dancing is unbelievable. Don't know how they do two of these shows in one day on the weekend. It has to be exhausting. The singing was also very enjoyable and the scenery was beautiful. Fabulous cast, great job. Totally recommend this show. ... Read more
