Jesus Christ Superstar

Why see Jesus Christ Superstar?

Who are you? What have you sacrificed?

Fresh off a hit run in London, this Olivier Award-winning new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's groundbreaking musical astounds is heading on a North American tour. Lacing together biblical drama with a propulsive rock and funk score, director Timothy Sheader reinvents the story for the modern age, paring back the more overblown aspects of the original for a truly rocking show.

Originally starting life in 1970 as a concept album, the show was ALW's first to debut on Broadway ahead of London in 1971. Featuring the well-known hits "Superstar" and "I Don't Know How to Love Him," Superstar is a tremendously powerful musical that retains a large fan base the world over.

What is Jesus Christ Superstar about?

A bombastic rock opera based on the Gospels, Jesus Christ Superstar portrays the last week of Jesus' life, heavily focusing on his relationship with Judas Iscariot. Imbued with modern sensibilities and contemporary political and social themes, this show is about a very human Jesus Christ, one who must reckon with his impending death.

Great production and musical performance

I have seen this performed on stage (off broadway) for 48 years and this was the best choreography and musical performance I have seen. Vocals were excellent with a few exceptions that got somewhat pitchy in I don’t know how to love him, but male leads came through at the big moments. Honestly, I didn’t care for the movie, and thought the television production was embarrassingly bad, so I loved that this was a really well done, accurate to the original broadway cast, production. ... jesus Christ Suoerstar

I saw the show on Broadway several years ago and also in Philadelphia a while back. I was very impressed with those shows that I wanted to see it again. I was a little apprehensive on how Keswick theatre would present the show since I was never there before. Well needless to say it was excellent. i would surely recommend this stage play. My seats were great, third row from the front. Children - depends on age to under stand it. Restaurant, corner pub, can"t remember the name but it was good. ... Read more
