Philadelphia Orchestra - Music of Faith at Verizon Hall

Why see Philadelphia Orchestra - Music of Faith?

Together in Music

As part of the Philadelphia Orchestra's celebration of the centenary of Leonard Berstein's birth, Yannick Nezet-Seguin brings you two opposing musical styles in this evening of Music of Faith. Combining Jewish Bernstein's Symphony No. 3 and Rossini's, a Roman Catholic, Stabat Mater Yannick crosses spiritual and geographical borders, presenting a programme that "is very much in the vein of what I think personally about spirituality".

Entitled Kaddish, Bernstein's Symphony No. 3 is based on the traditional Jewish Prayer for the dead with Rossini's Stabat Mater a deeply moving choral hymn which signalled the composer's retirement from writing Operas. Although they come from different sides of the religious spectrum Yannick says "These are two very different choral works, from different faiths, but combined together they offer a message of welcoming and living all together through music".
