Why see Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol?

It's that time of year again!

Walnut Street Theatre for Kids - One hour production

Dash through the snow and jingle all the way to Walnut Street Theatre, where you and your family will be taken on a festive journey like no other once more! Your holiday magic begins with the story of the mean old Ebenezer Scrooge who needs help with learning the true meaning of Christmas. This special hour-long adaptation uses the original songs to highlight the festive story, creating an atmosphere to make you feel part of this holiday favorite.

Ever since Charles Dickens first penned A Christmas Carol in 1843, it has seen myriad stage adaptations and the popularity of this tale of redemption and second chances has seemingly never waned. From stage to screen, opera to one-man show, it is one of the most influential Christmas shows and a traditional holiday outing that defines the joy of the Yuletide period for most of us.

Don't miss the Walnut Street Theatre's fizzling annual re-telling of this classic Christmas tale!

Bah! Humbug! What is A Christmas Carol About?

Ebenezer Scrooge doesn't see the point of letting his employees have a day off for Christmas, not even kind Bob Cratchit, whose son Tiny Tim is very sick. Eventually, he is convinced and retires to his room to pass Christmas Eve as he usually does, alone. But this Christmas is different. He has a visitor for a change, the wretched soul of his former business partner Jacob Marley. Doomed to wander the earth for eternity for his sins in life, Marley warns Scrooge of 3 impending visitations.

In a flurry of fear, he meets the gentle Ghost of Christmas Past, the jolly Ghost of Christmas Present and the terrifying Ghost of Christmas to Come, all of whom want to teach him valuable lessons about love, life and charity.

LOVED this show!

My sister and I saw a total of 3 plays during our visit to NYC (the other two we saw are Tony award winning plays)...A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder was our VERY favorite show! What a hilarious, clever, engaging and perfectly acted performance! The story was so fun! The actors were amazing...their singing, SO amazing...they obviously enjoy working together, as they played off of each others humor and made very funny moments even more entertaining. The orchestra was WONDERFUL. The set was simple and beautiful and surprising as it sprang to life during the performance... I can't say enough about it... The theater was beautiful and our seats, mezzanine right, were fabulous...I don't think there was a bad seat in the house. If there were any glitches during this first run preview on October 22nd, we certainly didn't detect them...the entire crew made the production an utter delight and we couldn't have had a more enjoyable night!! GO SEE THIS FABULOUS SHOW!!!! ... Read more
